Two Gillingham organisations that work with local young people are the latest good causes to benefit from a leading housebuilder’s funding boost.
Gillingham DofE Open Award Centre and St Mary Gillingham Scout Group have each been awarded £1,000 as part of the Persimmon Homes Midlands Community Champions scheme.
The national match-funding initiative seeks to support groups and charities working to improve the quality of life or environment across the region.
Matt Paine, managing director for Persimmon Homes South Coast, said: “This month we are delighted to be able to support two worthwhile organisations, who make a massive impact for young people in their community.
“Community Champions has handed over £1million to good causes across the UK and it’s great to see so many charities and groups benefiting.”
Gillingham DofE Open Award Centre is a voluntary organisation that delivers training and qualifying courses to around 150 teenagers every year for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme. The award teaches young people about leadership and teamwork as well as learning new skills to enhance their life.
The centre is heavily dependent on donations to continue its vital work within the community. A £1,000 donation from Persimmon Homes will help towards the centre’s annual running costs.
St Mary Gillingham Scout Group has been a part of the community for over 100 years, delivering a range of fun activities and challenges for local children aged six to 14.
The group have already held successful fundraising activities including barbecues, jumble sales, sponsored runs and skydives. The match-funding donation from Persimmon Homes will help towards a new Scout HQ and community building.
Community groups, charities and good causes across the county have benefitted thanks to the donations from Persimmon Homes. Organisations can apply for funding by completing a simple online form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity
The scheme invites local groups and charities to bid for cash from a £750,000 national fund, with two donations of up to £1,000 being made locally each month.
Persimmon Homes South Coast has new homes developments across Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire.
